After winning loads of fans for Lost in Translation, Sofia Coppola disappoints with her take on the Marie Antoinette story. It's inspired by Antonia Fraser's biography and stars Kirsten Dunst as the young Austrian princess whose marriage to the future French king, Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman), is supposed to save the two countries' relationship.

Sent to her new home in 1768 aged just 14, the innocent is quickly forced to grow up. Particularly trying is the gossip surrounding her inability to get pregnant by a husband who refused to have sex with her. As she becomes more disillusioned with her role, Marie Antoinette throws herself head first into the decadent world that's cushioning her from the real, poverty stricken France outside her palatial walls.
