This exceptional film is about the creation of 'In Cold Blood', the groundbreaking book Truman Capote wrote about the real-life Clutter family murders. It was the beginning of the non-fiction novel and the beginning of the end for the 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' author, who never finished another book and eventually developed serious alcohol and drug problems.

Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman) becomes fascinated by the murders so, with his childhood pal Nelle Harper Lee (Catherine Keener) as his researcher, heads to Kansas where he tracks down the chief investigator (Chris Cooper) and develops a strange friendship with one of the murderers (Clifton Collins Jr) which could almost qualify as love.

Spanning from 1959 to 1965 and based on the section of Gerald Clarke's biography that covers the writing of In Cold Blood, this fascinating drama is a study of the creative process, writing and a tortured soul.
